Each of the 18 chapters in this artist’s book documents a segment of a journey, each segment delineated by nature’s most consistent and visible marker of passing time: the full moon.

As the artist travels she gathers stones to represent every geographic location reached during a full moon. Reflecting upon the adventures of each passing month, she identifies an overarching theme and a predominant color and visual identity inspired by the location’s physical environment and material culture.

Plans shift and evolve as she envisions different ways she might assemble these components into a future work of art she nicknames The Beautiful Thing. And though she occasionally suspects that the journey itself may actually be a life-sized work of art—that it alone is both The Beautiful Thing and its true maker—she must ultimately find its tangible expression before she can truly understand its hidden truths.
